MG6 DTi 2015 review by CAR MagazineAn automobile is a wheeled, self-powered motor vehicle used for transport and something of the automotive industry. Most definitions of the word specify that automobiles are designed to run generally on roads, to get seating for one to eight people, to routinely have four rims with tyres, and to be constructed for the transport of men and women rather than goods principally. The year 1886 is regarded as the birth year of the present day car. In that full year, German inventor Karl Benz built the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Automobiles didn't become widely available before early 20th hundred years. Among the first cars that was accessible to the masses was the 1908 Model T, an American car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Automobiles were implemented in the United States of America swiftly, where they substituted animal-drawn carts and carriages, but got much longer to be accepted in Western European countries and other parts of the global world.

Cars include handles used for driving, parking, passenger comfort and safety, and controlling a number of lights. In the decades, additional control buttons and features have been added to vehicles, making them gradually more complex. Examples include rear reversing cameras, air conditioning, navigation systems, and in car entertainment. Most vehicles used in the 2010s are propelled by an interior combustion engine unit, fueled by deflagration of gasoline (also known as petrol) or diesel. Both fuels cause polluting of the environment and are also blamed for contributing to climate change and global warming.Vehicles using alternative fuels such as ethanol flexible-fuel vehicles and gas vehicles are also gaining popularity in some countries. Electric autos, that have been invented early in the past background of the automobile, began to become commercially available in 2008.

The term "car" is believed to result from the Latin expression carrus or carrum ("wheeled vehicle"), or the center English phrase carre (interpretation two-wheel cart, from Old North France). Subsequently, these comes from the Gaulish word karros (a Gallic chariot). The Gaulish terms was a branch of the Brythoic terms which also used the term Karr; the Brythonig language evolved into Welsh (and Gaelic) where 'Car llusg' (a drag cart or sledge) and 'car rhyfel' (war chariot) still survive. It actually referred to any wheeled horse-drawn vehicle, like a cart, carriage, or wagon. "Motor car" is attested from 1895, and is also the most common formal name for autos in British English. "Autocar" is a variant that is also attested from 1895, but that is considered archaic now. It literally means "self-propelled car". The term "horseless carriage" was employed by some to make reference to the first automobiles at the time that they were being built, which is attested from 1895.The term "automobile" is a classical compound derived from the ANCIENT GREEK LANGUAGE term aut?s (?????), indicating "self", and the Latin phrase mobilis, indicating "movable". It came into the English dialect from French, and was used by the Automobile Golf club of Great Britain in 1897 first. Over time, the term "automobile" fell out of favour in Britain, and was replaced by "motor car". It remains a North American usage chiefly. An abbreviated form, "auto", was formerly one common way to refer to cars in English, but is considered old-fashioned now. The word is still used in some compound formations in American English, like "auto industry" and "auto mechanic"
